DUI/DWAI
For many people, a DUI or DWAI arrest is their first exposure to the legal system. It can be a very humiliating and devastating experience. The legal system is overwhelming for someone unfamiliar with it. We believe that every client is unique and that their DUI/DWAI case is also unique. We pride ourselves on being able to provide our clients with all of the information necessary to understand their DUI case and instructions on how to successfully complete their sentence. We will answer all of your questions and explain why you should hire a good DUI lawyer and what to do after the DUI arrest.
Domestic Violence/Protection Orders/No Contact Orders
In Colorado, domestic violence is a sentencing enhancer; it is not a separate charge. This means that the final sentence for assault, harassment, criminal mischief, and even trespass can be increased or penalties made more severe if specific facts exist in a case. We assist our clients with understanding the domestic violence laws and also the "no contact order" that may be a condition of the bond.
Charges Involving College-Age Students in Colorado
We represent college-age students from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado State University in Fort Collins, the University of Colorado in Boulder, Front Range Community College and other educational institutions in northern Colorado. We try very hard to assist our clients from having a criminal conviction on their record. Our office is conveniently located next to CSU campus and the Larimer County Justice Center.
Misdemeanors
Misdemeanor charges may include assault, harassment, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, theft, trespass, minor in possession/consumption, and drug offenses. Many misdemeanors can be resolved through a fair and reasonable plea bargain. It is important to understand the long-term consequences of any plea agreement that may be reached.
Felony Offenses
Convictions for felony offenses such as first degree assault, possession, distribution, manufacturing of a controlled substance, theft, burglary, criminal mischief, and trespass carry severe penalties and often include a mandatory prison and parole sentence.
Assault/Harassment
More often than not, assault cases do not have any independent witnesses or may have many witnesses and many different versions about what occurred. Our client's perception of the incident is just as important as the alleged victim's perception of the incident. All of the facts and circumstance should be presented to the prosecutor so that they can make an informed decision about the disposition of the case.
Theft/Criminal Mischief/Trespass
Theft, criminal mischief, and trespass are often charged together. A conviction for any one of these offenses can result in serious penalties and often payment of restitution is required.
Drug Offenses
Drug offenses can be charged several different ways; unlawful use, distribution, possession with intent to distribute and manufacture. Charges depend upon the type of drug and the amount of the drug that was involved. A drug offense can be charged as a misdemeanor or as a felony; both carry serious penalties.
Traffic Offenses
We help resolve tickets for reckless driving, careless driving, failure to report an accident, failure to yield right-of-way, driving under revocation and other moving violations.
Sentences and Fines
This page provides an overview of the possible consequences for different classes of petty offenses, misdemeanors and felonies.
In addition to handling cases for adults, we also represent college-aged students and individuals under the age of 18 who are charged as juveniles.
